Let’s Be Honest; abortion is not healthcare

“The LORD is watching everywhere, keeping his eye on both the evil and the good.” Proverbs 15:3 NLT

I’ll be honest. Some articles are hard to write like this one. Some things are so obvious I feel like a fool stating them because it goes against the consensus of the general public. But there comes a time when we need to try to instill common sense in our world. For instance, ‘abortion is not healthcare.’ The majority opinion of most abortion providers is that ‘abortion is healthcare.’ But the majority opinion in the political world is ‘abortion is a woman’s right to choose’. So, my question is, which is it. It can’t be both. But wait, it can be both for about 1%-3% of abortions due to medical reasons. Medical professionals advise and women make a choice. But for the other 97% of all abortions, medical reasons do not apply. (1)

Another logical common-sense argument for ‘abortion is not healthcare’ is; if abortion is healthcare then how is it “642,700 medication abortions in the United States in 2023, accounted for 63% of all abortions in the formal health care system.” (2) That sounds like a ‘woman’s right to choose’. We need to stop fooling ourselves and call it for what it is. It may be considered a choice and excused away as a medical procedure, but the world has been living in this culture of death for many decades. It’s a choice of convenience where most of these abortions take place in the home in the privacy of a bathroom. It’s time to face the facts. As is often said, ‘it is what it is’.

The Lord God has His eye on each of us in this world. We are never out of His sight. God is aware of every medical and non-medical procedure that takes place, and He is there in the midst. Let not God be insulted, and let’s be honest, abortion is not healthcare.

Whose Leadership Do You Trust?

Photo by Eric Prouzet on Unsplash

“Seeking nothing but each other’s harm, these kings will plot against each other at the conference table, attempting to deceive each other. But it will make no difference, for the end will come at the appointed time. The king of the north will then return home with great riches. On the way he will set himself against the people of the holy covenant, doing much damage before continuing his journey.” Daniel 11:27-28 NLT

Years ago, many Bible preachers would be heard saying ‘read the headlines in the newspaper and you’ll find much the same in the Bible.’ It still applies today to any creditable news source. The Lord has laid out for us the good, the bad, and the ugly along with future events and the recorded past in His Word. God does not want us to be ill informed, but to know the signs of the times. The evil times in which we live, as bad as they are, have been on-going since Cain and Abel. God has given us His Word, reliable for truth, for us to know who to trust in our troubled times.

In Daniel chapter 11, a conference was prophesied to take place between two kings, Antiochus and Ptolemy, who lie to each other at the conference table. Deception to the hurt of the other was politics as usual as it is today. Our News headlines are the same as centuries ago. Antiochus was also a vile individual who hated the Jews, persecuting them and desecrating the Temple. (Dan.8;13) Sounds like a current day news story, hatred of the Jews by some of our world leaders.

For Christians it comes down to this, whose leadership do we trust today. Every one of our most trusted leaders across this world has flaws of some kind. Conferences, peace talks, etc. don’t have long-lasting effects and never will. The Lord God is where our trust should be. May we see the events happening in our world as God at work leading the nations and let us be content, He is in control.

A Message to the Christian Church

Read: Revelation 2:18-29 NLT – The Message to the Church in Thyatira – Bible Gateway

“Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.” 1 John 4:1 NLT

Photo by Jonny Gios on Unsplash

Our news feed has on-going stories about the corruption in the world. Corruption, defined as “evil, depraved, taking bribes, extortion, racketeering, etc.” is making the headlines revealing those involved in the corruption and those who are pursuing to end it. Corruption can be found in all walks of life, in business and industry, in governments, in professional sports, in colleges and universities, in medical institutions, in personal relationships, and yes even in the church.

The church in Thyatira is an example of some churches in our day. Jesus’ letter to this church can very well be written today to those who are following the same path as the Thyatira church. False teaching, as in Pergamum, the compromising church, is again being accepted. But unlike the Pergamum church where the faithful were still the majority, the faithful in Thyatira were small in number. Jesus says, “But I have this complaint against you. You are permitting that woman—that Jezebel who calls herself a prophet—to lead my servants astray. She teaches them to commit sexual sin and to eat food offered to idols.” (Rev.2:20 nlt)

Jezebel, probably not her real name, but a Jezebel type as in the Old Testament, was used by Satan to corrupt the church. A false prophetess, who was permitted to teach by spreading the lies of Satan, was corrupting the church of God. Many were led into sin buying into this persuasive and attractive teaching. Many members of churches today are also buying into and following teaching that is contrary to the Word of God, corrupting Christ’s church.

Wherever we attend church, let us follow the apostle John’s teaching to “not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.” (1Jn.4:1 nlt)

It is Never Safe to Do Wrong

Read: Ecclesiastes 8:9-13 NLT – The Wicked and the Righteous – I have – Bible Gateway

“When a crime is not punished quickly, people feel it is safe to do wrong.” Ecclesiastes 8:11 NLT

Photo by KATRIN BOLOVTSOVA on Pexels.com

According to ‘The Council of State Governments Justice Center’ website, “Failing to arrest people who commit violent crime undermines justice, safety, and trust in government. More accountability, instead of arbitrary punishment, is urgently needed. Failing to solve violent crime means less justice for victims and their families, less trust in the justice system’s ability to protect and respond, and a greater risk of retaliatory violence” (1) King Solomon put it this way, “When a crime is not punished quickly, people feel it is safe to do wrong.” (Ec.8:11 nlt) The same Justice Center reports, “Unsolved violent crime is a national issue facing nearly every state. In 2022, more than 50 percent of violent crimes reported to law enforcement went unsolved in 38 states. And in 6 states, over two-thirds of all violent crime went unsolved.” (1)

There is definitely a problem in America punishing violent crime or any non-violent crime. What exasperates the problem is the failure not to convict those guilty of a crime but to release them without any consequences back into society. We should all agree that Solomon is right when he says, people then feel it is OK and safe to do wrong. “After all, it looks like I got away with it. I got off.” But every parent knows if you let your little ones get away with the small things, bigger ones are not far behind. The criminal justice system does have its challenges, but it must be more forceful in punishing the small offenders not sending them out with a ‘get out of jail free card’ to use against the innocent.

It is never safe to do wrong even if our district attorneys fail to prosecute and our court judges release the guilty. There is one greater who will enact perfect justice. Solomon also wrote, “The wicked will not prosper, for they do not fear God. Their days will never grow long like the evening shadows.” (Ec.8:13 nlt) We can rest comfortably their day will come. “It is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Heb.10:31 nlt) In the meantime we should all be praying for safety and justice in the streets of America and around the world.

Peaceful Protests Will Be Gone Forever

Read: Revelation 21:1-8 NLT – The New Jerusalem – Then I saw a new – Bible Gateway

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” Revelation 21:4 NLT

Photo by Florian Olivo on Unsplash

For those of us living in America, and those viewing the news headlines across the world, an updated version of the First Amendment in the U.S. Constitution is on display. Peaceful protests have been redefined. Not sure who amended the First Amendment, but it sure looks like it was according to the news media and certain politicians. The fact is it was not amended, but still stands and says, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.” (1) It is hard to watch this chaos unfold with the ignorance of those who ignore it and remain silent.

So, for what it is worth, I’m not remaining silent. There is no need to state the obvious for all people with even a speck of honesty know the reality of the situation. This world is in chaos, and it saddens me to say the United States is contributing to it with the divisiveness in the country. It is no longer divided by politics but between right and wrong. ‘Right is wrong and wrong is right.’ ‘Good is evil and evil is good.’ Millions of people in the world fear the future in its current state, and there are sound reasons for that. The truth is that life on this planet will only grow worse until the arrival of Jesus Christ to set up His kingdom. But there is good news, a guaranteed perfect future for those who know Christ as savior.

John, the apostle, wrote of that future time through the leading of the Holy Spirit and said, “He (Jesus) will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever.” (Rev.21:4 nlt) The likes of the lies, corruption, violence, and chaos we are witnessing today will be gone forever. Yes, even the amended ‘peaceful protests’ will be gone forever. Real peace will finally be observed. Let us repeat after John at the end of Revelation, “Amen! Come, Lord Jesus!” (Rev.22:20 nlt)

Wisdom for the asking

Read: Proverbs 8:12-21 NLT – “I, Wisdom, live together with good – Bible Gateway

“Because of me, kings reign, and rulers make just decrees. Rulers lead with my help, and nobles make righteous judgments. Proverbs 8:15-16 NLT

Photo by Saj Shafique on Unsplash

We end our week of devotions from the wisdom book of Proverbs with ‘A Christian Perspective’ concerning the world’s leaders. Scripture is clear in more than a few verses that God does raises up the leaders of the world for His purposes. We may or may not agree with God’s choices depending where we find our home on this earth, but then we are disagreeing with God. We may not want to do that. So, what should we do? Pray for your leaders, and pray they ask for wisdom. It is there for the asking.

Throughout this week it was stressed that true wisdom is from God. It was also noted, “The fear (reverence) of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge” (Pr.1:7 niv) This wisdom and knowledge is available to every President, Prime Minster, King, even a dictator if they truly desire it wanting to rule well, if they ask for it. Why then is there so much chaos in the world today? Obviously because most leaders don’t ask for God’s wisdom and why is that? The second half of Proverbs 1:7 tells us, “But fools despise wisdom and instruction.” We would agree that there must be plenty of foolish leaders in the world today to be in the mess we are in. But it doesn’t need to be that way.

Our scripture verse today says, “Because of me, kings reign, and rulers make just decrees. Rulers lead with my help, and nobles make righteous judgments. (Pr.8:15-16 nlt) By wisdom leaders rule and make just decisions for the laws in their countries. They have the help of God’s wisdom to judge justly in every circumstance. Our world needs God’s wisdom working through each world leader today to rule righteously and with justice. It is readily available. All they need to do is ask. It’s there for the asking.

Watching the Storm

Read: Psalm 77:16-20 NLT – When the Red Sea saw you, O God, its – Bible Gateway

“The clouds poured down rain; the thunder rumbled in the sky. Your arrows of lightning flashed.” Psalm 77:17 NLT

Photo by Lance Stephenson on Pexels.com

I enjoy sitting on our front porch during a late afternoon summer thunder and lightening storm. Yes, I know it’s not the safest thing to do, but it doesn’t stop me. Witnessing God’s all-powerful force in nature He created is fascinating. His hand is the storm from the dark clouds forming in the west making its way east as I watch the radar on my phone seeing it making its approach. Soon I’m able to feel the wind and hear the thunder in the background. It won’t be long until our neighborhood experiences God’s tremendous power.

The children of Israel stood on the banks of the Red Sea with an approaching storm about to come upon them, the army of Pharoah’s soldiers and chariots. After freeing the Israelites, Pharoah had a change of heart and had his army pursue them. With their backs against the wall at the Red Sea, the children of Israel saw a much more powerful storm on the horizon, the power of the living God. The Bible says, “Then Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the LORD opened up a path through the water with a strong east wind. The wind blew all that night, turning the seabed into dry land.” (Ex.14:21 nlt) All of Israel had a front row seat for that incredible experience. A storm with winds so powerful that it blew back the water in the middle of the sea and created a clear dry path for them to escape the Egyptian army. “When the Red Sea saw you, O God, its waters looked and trembled! The sea quaked to its very depths.” (Ps.77:16 nlt)

The Lord’s power is unmeasurable. The most violate storm we will ever see or go through is nothing compared to His ultimate power. Sometimes we need to sit through an afternoon thunderstorm to remember we serve an awesome and powerful God.

Are you trained for war?

Read: Psalm 144 NLT – Psalm 144 – A psalm of David. Praise – Bible Gateway

“Praise the Lord, who is my rock. He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle.” Psalm 144:1 NLT

FreeBibleimages.org

The Bible contains a lot of tough verses we wrestle with. Several publications are offered with the sole purpose of answering questions and explaining these tough verses. Our key verse today is one tough verse. “Praise the Lord, who is my rock.” That’s not tough to comprehend, in fact it’s quite refreshing. What follows confuses us. Training for war? “He trains my hands for war and gives my fingers skill for battle.” (Ps.144:1 nlt) Many Christians have a passivist view of war for many reasons. I’m not going to stir the pot of debate on the world’s wars, but I am going to state that every Christian is in a war whether we agree with it or not. So, my question is, are you trained for war?

King David, the author of Psalm 144, was the king in the theocratic government of Israel. The Lord God empowered David to overcome his enemies, all who were against the God of heaven and His people. This was war against unholy idol worshipers with no regard for the true God and who continually fought against Israel. The Lord God thoroughly trained David in every way to fight against the enemies of the Lord. Ultimately David knew God was his rock and fortress. “He is my loving ally and my fortress, my tower of safety, my rescuer. He is my shield, and I take refuge in him. He makes the nations submit to me.” (Ps.144:2 nlt) But he was still trained to subdue the enemies of the Lord.

King David had the nations’ armies against him, and Christians today have Satan’s armies against us. The apostle Paul instructs us to put on the full armor of God to stand against the devil. (Eph.6:11-17) The one major difference here is we’re not to fight but be trained in putting on the armor. Once on, we stand! No matter your view on war, Christians are in a war as Paul states, “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” (Eph.6:12 nlt) Paul then tells us to ‘stand our ground.’ Having on the full armor of God we are now fully trained for war by standing firm.

Power to the People

“O God, You are awesome from Your sanctuary. The God of Israel Himself gives strength and power to the people.” Psalm 68:35 NASB

Photo by Anita Monteiro on Unsplash

In the 1960’s and early 1970’s the slogan ‘Power to the People’ gained a vast audience and became extremely popular in the United States. It was a call for people to take control of governments and institutions. Predominantly started and expressed by the younger generation against what was perceived as oppression from the older generation, it covered a lot of territory. Politically it was against the government and the Vietnam War. Segments of the movement were revolutionary with social justice at its roots. ‘Power to the People’ was used to exploit the rich, and defame any enterprise deemed as ‘The Establishment.’ This power was self-driven and self-accepted. Five decades later there is still fruit from that historic period.

Power and influence are contagious no matter where your politics or worldview stands. It is vital to seek the true source of power when attempting to change the world. King David in the 68th Psalm said, “The God of Israel Himself gives strength and power to the people.” (Ps.68:35 nasb) Israel is God’s chosen people. He gives His victorious power freely to His children. True strength and power only come from the Lord God above and not us. David also reminds us that true peace only comes from God and not us orchestrating it on our own. “The LORD will give strength to His people; The LORD will bless His people with peace.” (Ps.29:11 nasb)

True power and true peace come from only one source, the Lord God of heaven. There are still many injustices in the world today needing to be addressed. Perhaps more ‘power to the people’ is necessary. But make sure you ask God to give you the power and not seek your own power to change the world. Don’t be persuaded by others who follow the god of this world. The Lord will gladly give His power to His people to carry out His will in helping others and living righteously.

Climate Change

In response to an article on the Christian Post website this week entitled ‘Vanderbilt professor claims some pro-lifers use Bible to distract from climate change’ the following repost from September 2023 is in order. Christians do gather their information for moral, social, and world issues from the Bible, including ‘Climate Change.’ A link to the article with other claims by the Vanderbilt professor is posted below.

Photo by Nicholas Doherty on Unsplash

“Climate change refers to long-term shifts in temperatures and weather patterns. Such shifts can be natural, due to changes in the sun’s activity or large volcanic eruptions. But since the 1800s, human activities have been the main driver of climate change, primarily due to the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas……Because the Earth is a system, where everything is connected, changes in one area can influence changes in all others. The consequences of climate change now include, among others, intense droughts, water scarcity, severe fires, rising sea levels, flooding, melting polar ice, catastrophic storms and declining biodiversity.” (1)

The above statement is furnished to us from the ‘United Nations Climate Action’ page. The following are from the pages of the Bible which concurs with the United Nations at least to the effects of climate change. “Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse. But with eager hope, the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.” (Ro.8:20-22 nlt) Scripture confirms the created earth is under the curse of God and it came about after sin entered the paradise of the Garden of Eden. “And to the man he said, ‘Since you listened to your wife and ate from the tree
whose fruit I commanded you not to eat, the ground is cursed because of you. All your life you will struggle to scratch a living from it.’”  (Gen.3:17 nlt) The earth experienced its first ever change of climate during the great flood of Noah’s day, for it had never rained before that time in history. Scripture records for us in Genesis 7:11-12, “When Noah was 600 years old, on the seventeenth day of the second month, all the underground waters erupted from the earth, and the rain fell in mighty torrents from the sky. The rain continued to fall for forty days and forty nights.” (nlt) Waters bursting up from the ground with rain falling from the sky for the first time ever no doubt that is climate change.

The point is climate change is not restricted only to the last 200 years. But the recent noticeable changes cannot be denied. Every individual living on planet earth, especially Christians, has a responsibility to be a good steward of God’s creation for our generation and the generations to come. We are to praise God for His magnificent creation and work to maintain its wondrous beauty as far as it depends on us with what we can do.

Photo by Markus Spiske on Unsplash

The Bible also gives us encouragement that we will not destroy the earth. Our planet will not succumb to our increasing manmade climate change. After the great flood, God told Noah, “While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.” (Gen.8:22 esv) The seasons will not change regardless of our recklessness but will remain. They will remain until the next disastrous climate change effect takes place during the tribulation period described in the book of Revelation. “I watched as the Lamb broke the sixth seal, and there was a great earthquake. The sun became as dark as black cloth, and the moon became as red as blood. Then the stars of the sky fell to the earth like green figs falling from a tree shaken by a strong wind. The sky was rolled up like a scroll, and all of the mountains and islands were moved from their places.” (Rev.6:12-14 nlt) We can eliminate fossil fuels entirely, but it will not save the planet from sure destruction during the tribulation period.

The earth we know will racially change in the future, but not by us driving our electric vehicles. Jesus Christ will return at the end of the tribulation and established His Kingdom and will rule on earth for a thousand years with Satan bound and cast into the bottomless pit. What will our environment and climate be like, we don’t know. But we do know that Christ, God the Son, will be here on earth ruling, I’m sure the ‘son’ will shine.

Photo by Matt Palmer on Unsplash

The ultimate and final climate change will be at the end of Christ’s thousand-year reign on the earth. Satan will be sent to his eternal final destination, the lake of fire, along with all those whose names were not found written in the book of life. The apostle John writes in Revelation 21:1-4, “Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the old heaven and the old earth had disappeared. And the sea was also gone. And I saw the holy city, the new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven like a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, ‘Look, God’s home is now among his people! He will live with them, and they will be his people. God himself will be with them. He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever,’” (nlt) and there will be no worries about carbon emissions, fossil fuels and climate change. The climate will no longer change.
