“But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.” Psalm 52:8 NIV
The olive tree has a rich history of being a very fruitful tree in the Mediterranean Basin and throughout the Middle East. It is well represented in the Bible. We find the first mention of it in the book of Genesis as Noah and his family were waiting for the water to recede after the flood. “When the dove returned to him in the evening, there in its beak was a freshly plucked olive leaf! Then Noah knew that the water had receded from the earth.” (Gen.8:11) The olive tree was flourishing again after the devastation of the worldwide flood.

The flourishing of the olive tree is an example of God’s faithfulness. As the earth’s season’s change, His faithfulness is seen. We, also, can be assured that the changing of seasons in our lives reflect His faithfulness. God is aware of each change in our lives, good or bad. He is faithful to see us through it, good or bad. The question is; Are we trusting in God or ourselves? King David writes in Psalm 52, “I trust in God’s unfailing love for ever and ever.” David was writing in contrast to those who do evil and take matters into their own hands.
David was like an olive tree that was flourishing even though he had enemies against him conspiring for his death. His trust and love for God were like seeds planted as an olive tree in the house of God. For us, life itself with all its prosperity, joy, and peace is possible even in the direst of circumstances when we are like an olive tree ‘flourishing in the house of God.’ Start planting your seeds in the Lord God!!
